Ritchie makes star comeback

Stop Press: Tony Ritchie seen at Balloch to Clydebank half-marathon! After "resting" from racing for 4 years, Ritchie made a strong comeback on this scenic route through Alexandria, Renton, Dumbarton and the final drag (what a drag!) on Seaforth road. Well done Tony, who showed Muffy a very clean pair of heels.

6 Westies braved the wind, which for a perserve reason blew East to West, instead of the usual and more helpful West to East...: Captain Chris (with another pb), Graham K (no puke), Tony R, David B, Ellen, and Muffy (thankful for not-a-pw).

Lots of Westies out having been marshalled into marshalling by Dave, thanks for your support.

Results not out yet :)

Another Sunday, another Runday (my second race in two weeks- and therefore good for me). I (really?) enjoyed this run, and was again spurred on by the Westie clan at the start line...although Muffy spotted and was clearly disappointed at my sneaky second vest...letting the side down again! I call it graded desensitisation. The shouts from the marshalls were extremely encouraging, especially when I found my mind drifting into non-running territory, completely forgetting I was meant to be racing. Apologies to those same encouraging marshalls for any lack of response on my part. I was certainly boosted by the shouts, but wasn't wearing my glasses and was desperately focused on sticking to the armpit of some strong-legged chap, losing all social skills in the process! Well done all & thanks to Chris for generously booking me in- swine.

Another Sunday. Another Runday. And another PB.Clocked 1:18:17 to finish 16th and 1st V40 - although I was beaten by the first V50 who passed me when I'd fallen asleep in Dumbarton. Set off for first 3.5 miles tucked in with the 1:15 guys, to get some shelter from the persistent headwind. As soon as I was droppped, went backwards rapidly and thought the gameplan was out the window. Laboured through Dumbarton, but picked up a bit after seeing Hamilton and Cat at the Bowling junction. Went through 10 miles in 59:44, so guessed sub 1:20 must be on the cards. Ramped up the pace for the last 2 miles just to make sure.

Fantastic to see Footer Ritchie out again competing after a gap of 4 years, and doing so in fine style. For the benefit of newer members, Tony could be relied on for three things; puking up (after drinking wine), chatting up (with or without wine) and dithering ( when stone cold sober). Let's hope that we now see Tony appearing at more races thoughout the year, to add a bit of colour to our gatherings!

Thanks also to the best marshalling team in Dunbartonshire...who else could deal so well with the road squad putting up new lamp posts at Dunglass Roundabout? Westeeeeezzzzeeee
