Haweswater Half Marathon
A race too far.
After pulling out all the stops at the Masters Cross Country on Saturday, I had nothing left in the tank for Sunday.
A tough race in vile conditions. Strong headwind and almost continuously uphill on the way out. Torrential rain on the way back. Felt tired, washed out, and was running on empty for the last few miles. Could only manage 12th in 1:21:16.
Ellie had a great run to finish 9th lady in 1:33:27. The race was won by by Mike Scott of Border Harriers in 1:11:27.

Well done Chris on two good'uns. Having done just these few multi race weekends I really don't know how you keep it up. I know you are disappointed with your time but if only I could be so slow. Also another brill run by Ellie who is rapidly turning into a bit of a Westies star. Hope to see you in some hill races in the summer.

Thanks Jason, although I felt like I'd totally lost my oomph at Haweswater.Ellie's 1:33 in vile weather on hilly course could well translate to sub 1:30 in more benign conditions. Resting up now until Balloch to Clydebank in the hope of finally cracking that elusive 1:20 barrier.

A very kind comment Jason. I was amazed that I managed to shave a good 12 minutes off my previous half marathon times with no training and in the pouring rain and howling winds. I think it must have been guilt that my mother was waiting on the finishing line getting drenched that drove me on! However, I didn't feel like much of a star last night as my lungs nearly exploded trying to get up the hill at the beginning of the handicap run. ' Reckon I need a bit more exposure to this harsh Scottish hill running game. Roll on the summer!

I felt a bit guilty as well, having told your mother I would definitely be sub 1:20 only to finish in 1:21 - more than enough time for her to get utterly drenched, whilst she stood at the finish line in pouring rain.
