King of the Road (KB5)

Chris and I were the only Westies to travel east today for this fast little run around a very pretty part of Edinburgh. It was a lovely day for running, no wind and slightly cool. As ever there were many familiar faces and a few I could even put a name to from Carnethy, HBT, Glasgow Uni among others. Anyway for those of you who haven't run the KingsBuilding5 (mile road race) before it has a long climb and descent in the middle to liven things up. I was planning to run this at my target marathon heart rate of 160 bpm. This meant a steady run, backing off uphill and hammering downhill passing almost everyone who got me on the climb. Then at the bottom of the hill I let rip for the last 3/4 mile burn up. In the end I was pleasantly surprised with a time of 34:14. I would have been even happier if Chris hadnt been on the ast corner to take photos and then proceeded to sprint past me to get some more...twice! That was on top of `chris running a pb of 28:04 I think. A fun race & it'll be interesting to see how my legs feel tomorrow. But where wuz the wimmin?
