Chick Flick

Well you wouldn't normally catch me going to see a chick flick, but was curious to see this one, as part of the current Glasgow Film Festival. From not really knowing anything about the band, the documentary of 'Dixie Chicks - Shut Up & Sing' gave an insightful view of the girls and the controversy they caused in the good old U S of A a few years ago, after one simple little comment about George Dubya. Eye opening to see the polarization in the States re the whole Iraq war conundrum. Oh aye, and if you're a redneck country music fan like myself, the songs were good too. Great choice JD. Hopefully the new social sec will include more Westie nights at the movies in the future.

Couldn't make it tonight ...so went last night instead. Been a fan of the band for a good fews years. The girls have been in trouble before with middle America to an extent (listen to Goodbye Earl) but this stuff was off the scale.

As was said above ...a real insight. I was shocked last summer when I spent a couple of weeks over in the USA (a country which I really like as well) with the media coverage of the war - in short there wasn't any ! A tiny bit of "things ain't going that well" but none of the day to day stuff i.e. the bombings, murders, etc .....

On a lighter note - my favourite visual in the film is when Rick Rubin (who produced the Taking the Long Way record) and Natalie are sitting on the couch listening to a few demos and rocking and nodding in a way only someone who REALLY loves music can ! The scary bit was seeing the fear in the faces of the girls as they go on stage on the day that the death threat made against the band was supposed to become reality.

Greetings loyal Westlanders - well, whaddya think the Dubya stands for? However I'm mad, not to say pissed, that some of y'all went to a movie about this Texas band, the Tricky Dick Chicks. Them bitches badmouthed me, and I swear to Gawd I'll whup their ass. Y'all better mend ya ways or I'll drop the Dubya and switch to Bad Boggy Bush. I sure like yuh merchandise - can ya mail me some gear? My hat size is ten gallon - boot size is 9/11 - vest size is medium rare, or is that my T-bone?
