Ochils Sunday Run

What better way to spend a Sunday?! 3 hours of trail running through forests from Alva to Tillicoultry, up Tilli Glen with waterfalls and views of the quarry, a steady plod up the "descent" of the Maddy Moss race route, starting off muddy and slushy and ending up a slog through knee deep fresh snow to reach the summit of Ben Cleuch. From there it was downhill (apart from Ben Ever) round the side of The Nebit and back to Alva. We then enjoyed tea, toasties, soup and scones in the warmth of the Mill Trail Visitor Centre tea shop. Thanks to Chris, Ellen, David R, Cat, Hamilton, Val H, Rob, Jason and Jane for a great day out. Photos on Chris' blog here

Sounds like you all had a slap up tea in Alva. Really enjoyed the day out, despite the trudge through the snow. I was particularly impressed by the number of clothes Ellen managed to wear, Val's rugby tackling, Jason's impromptu diagnosis of group psychosis and Cat's matching red legs and jacket.

    Added a couple of photos.

Always associate Alva with the Champ. Race, and Drew being kind enough to do a recce just before the startonly to pull a Quad.muscle on the famously precipitous descent. Still had to be pulled out of gorse by a fellow competitor, but that as they say,is a story for another day. No our sojourn in the Ochils was an envigorating little tramp that did'nt seem like 3 hours (just 5 according to Val). That's why I for one was being told that you look a little tired.....no,just completely wabbit. Can't complain about the shoes though-the new Mudclaws coped admirably with the deep snowy descents. Thanks chaps-great day out.

This was a slow plod, difficult underfoot in bits, I fell a couple of times, felt slow but strong in the cold wind...sounds familiar? The difference today was the snow, which was falling hard and into the back of my neck on the climb up Cleuch, in a ball like fashion. Oh how I laughed! However overall a fun day out in good company and not nearly as close to death as we lead Ellen to believe. Not quite a recce for the Ochill 2000s but good time on feet. Thanks for the company everyone. One of Chris' photos shows I have followed Cat's lead to lose a leg in order to improve my speed. This clearly worked for her as she descended like a demon into Alva.
