Druim Fada

Went up to near Corpach for the Druim Fada race last weekend .....which I can heartily recommend ....not the sort of race which really suits me ....in some ways its like an ordinary hill race ....steep climb up on good, sometimes very very muddy, covered in snow tracks with bit of steep boggy descent ....bad news was the 3 to 4 miles of undulating forest road in between the up and down....plus two fords of streams .......only good news about the track was that you could beat some feeling back into your frozen feet. Organisation was excellent ....race cost nothing ....registration at Roger Boswell's house ....no numbers to be worn ...unique system of getting your place/time at the finish .....and the free entry included a bus to the start 2 miles from the registration/finish.

Big field for this race compared to normal.....40 I think ....and I came 16th in a time just a few seconds over the hour ( 60:27).........if I hadn't been for a run on the Ochils on Saturday I might have been a minute or so quicker which would have got me to 15th ....big deal .....still it was in the first half of the field again so progress of a kind. 1st man was Paul MacLean of Lochaber in 50:40, 1st lady was Dawn Scott of Lochaber who was 13th... Alan Smith of Deeside was 5th so some good runners up the front of the field.

Great wee race and should be better known ...maybe it's move away from the Tinto weekend will help to increase numbers substantially in future.
