Caerketton
The future of the Westies Wummen is bright and in good hands...
At Caerketton, Victoria Reid seems to have had a fine run up and down the steep windy course and Helen Rogers put up a fine battle and a speedy sprint finish to win the juniors race.
Well done burdzzz!!!

Look, having that photo of me looking at my manly best is just uncalled for! Well ok maybe it just shows how I climb...no surprises there. A good Westies turnout on Wednesday despite it being the other side of the country, and a fun but tough little race it was too. After our success in Helen winning the junior race the rest of the slightly older Westies, well Victoria and the rest of us old codgers, battled up the steep start. This year Al Anthony went off right instead of straight up the steepest section of slope and I followed him, at a slight distance admitedly. The hill was longer, but more runnable this way, and we still came out at the cairn so no worries there. Then we should have had a short sharp ridge run, except for the strong cold wind which stuffed my throat. The last sharp climb, hard to see oncoming runners in the sun, but Don was the first Westie passing me the other way and I was a bit disappointed that Donald had got right away from me. Finally I turned and descended with catlike grace and stupendous speed...(no laughing)... to make absolutely no impression on the positions. Going straight down the slope was a bit scary with the strong wind now behind us and it is roung and ankly twisty at the top! Then successaful Westies of all ages stood around and coughed our way through the presentations, except for Jane who was so cool she was fashionably late for her own prize, as 1st f40 I think, or maybe just the bluest shorts. A fun race but not a fun run, & this report is longer than the race!

Talking of climbing styles ...I am not exactly what I was trying to achieve getting almost parallel to the ground (other than maybe spying the cairn ?!?). Had a rather silly attempt to catch Kate Jenkins on the descent but failed miserably.
Great to see a good turnout of Westies in the East ! Especially well done to the younger ones (but not forgetting the older ones either)
