Narnain boulder dash 1
Well this was the first NBD, up around 1.5-2miles of the main track towards the Cobbler to the largest of the Narnain boulders and then back the same way. A good turn out of 14 or so westies came to see the turn crop tops, and made it a lot of fun. Charlie did the handicapping as usual and very fair and true it was too. Actually I have to admit I got one over on him...ha ha ha...I suppose I'll pay for it next time. It seems that growing up in India did nothing for my heat tolerance, but tought me to haggle, as my terrible 'run' at Moffat finally worked in my favour and I was allowed to set off second, chasing Drew down hard up the first few turns.
It is a good climb, never quite steep enough to stop you and so hard enough to have to run all the way up hill. Some short cuts across corners, stream crossings and steps made for interesting running before touching the biggest boulder and starting the return. By now my legs had the familiar jelly feeling, sweat was rolling down me and I had to be careful not to fall. However as I turned in 32 minutes I began to pass the others coming up and so couldn't relax either.
Now the short cuts came into their own as a 16 minutes descent lead to my first and probably last ever victory. The others came in short order and Charlie swore I would start last next time. I tried to convince him the handicap was right, I just benefited from a light top! Anyway I have finished last and first in the last couple of weeks!
Then were driven away by the midges to the Village Inn in Arrochar where good beers and banter flowed.
Well done to Chris for the fastest time over all and everyone else for finishing what turned out to be quite a tough little run and another successful club race. Well chosen cap'n c and our honourable handicapper and timer.

Enjoy the glory Jason! (Once bitten, twice shy for the handicapper ;-)
Thanks also to JD for helping out and distributing the fine prizes that Cat had selected, including the ubiquitous coconut for these races.
