Beinn Sheann has a descent that is described as exciting. It’s a hill where your pulse can be faster going down than going up. Due to my abysmal descending skills I’d decided that this was perhaps not the race for me and so was happily planning on a relaxing Whangie run. How I came to be heading towards Strathyre is therefore a bit baffling! How I got there in time is even more baffling. Leaving the Whangie at 6.25pm I totally expected to be late so was stunned when I got there by 7.05pm. The wee car was flat out all the way, all corners were done F1 style. The race itself was great. Up, up, up, up then up some more and then suddenly a drop off the top, and a plunge down through the forest, shooting out onto the road at the bottom and dashing to the finish. Nige and Luke and Alistair were very fast, Murdo and Dave were just in front of me on the up but flew ahead on the down, Donald nearly beat long term rival Charlie Love, but was thwarted at the end by navigational error, Katherine got even with the lady who beat her last year and Pat and Drew made up the fine Westies team. It’s a wee race, but it’s a lot of fun, as close as a hill race could get to a helter skelter ride!
